HK Connect resumes trading with Hang Seng Index up 44 points at 24,554; tech and internet stocks mixed; gold mining stocks lead declines

The Economic Information Daily reported on the 28th: The Xi-Biden meeting has concluded, with U.S. President Trump announcing that the two leaders will meet again at the APEC and G20 summits; the U.S. President rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and Trump expects the U.S. and Iran to resume negotiations this week. HK Connect resumed trading today, with the Hang Seng Index opening at 24,554, up 44 points or 0.2%, and board turnover at HK$1.653 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index stood at 8,195, up 29 points or 0.4%. The Hang Seng Tech Index was at 4,324, up 12 points or 0.3%.

The U.S. rejection of Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, coupled with persistently high market expectations for Fed rate hikes, led gold mining stocks to open lower this morning. Zijin (02899) fell 1.11% to HK$32.14, Zhaojin Mining (01818) dropped 1.96% to HK$17.98, Lingbao Gold (03330) declined 2.83% to HK$20.6, China Gold International (02099) fell 2.16% to HK$217.8, and Shandong Gold (01787) plunged 3.5% to HK$19.3; oil stocks opened slightly higher, with CNOOC (00883) up 0.94% at HK$23.62, and PetroChina (00857) up 0.9% at HK$9.495.

The yield on U.S. 30-year Treasury bonds briefly surpassed 5.5% last Friday, leaving the market without a reference benchmark. Tech and internet stocks showed mixed performance: Alibaba (09988) fell 0.55% to HK$107.8, Tencent (00700) rose 1.1% to HK$441.4, Baidu (09888) gained 0.76% to HK$85.95, Meituan (03690) was flat at HK$71.65, and Kuaishou (01024) rose 0.6% to HK$30.2.

NetEase (09999) rose 1.71% to HK$184; J&T Express (01519) gained 1.43% to HK$8.85; CMOC (03993) fell 1.33% to HK$14.82; Techtronic Industries (00669) dropped 1.18% to HK$125.5. (ey)
