Description
The much-anticipated Croucher Science Week will return in 2025, inspiring Hong Kong children’s creativity and exploring the infinite possibilities of science through a series of interactive workshops, live performances and hands-on demonstrations. Following the success of attracting more than 25,000 new students and parents in 2024, this year's Science Week will be held from April 7 to 25, and will be extended to two weekends for the first time. It will be larger than ever before and will bring more workshops, live performances and other programs. As a flagship project of the "2025 Hong Kong Science Festival", a number of highlight programmes will be staged at the Hong Kong Science Museum. Croucher Science Week strives to provide a vibrant learning and discovery experience for all participants.
Croucher Science Week 2025 will bring 14 exciting themes, presented through 57 rich and diverse activities, including live performances, interactive science experiences, hands-on workshops, and a series of online videos, allowing everyone to explore science anytime, anywhere! The science craze will sweep across campuses in Hong Kong, bringing special campus touring science theatres. Top science education teams from the UK, Germany and Australia, including the Deutsches Museum and Thunderbolts & Lightning who are participating for the first time, will present a series of carefully planned science feasts.
Diverse programs, new highlights
Immerse yourself in fascinating science theatre
The theatre performances during Croucher Science Week will bring audiences a thrilling scientific experience. These performances use science as a narrative medium and are as fascinating as suspense novels. They solve scientific mysteries and reveal the secrets through vivid stories.
A team of scientific communicators from the Royal Institution, including Michael Cutts, Judit Agui and Jason Le, will lead the audience to explore in depth how food is digested in the human body. This immersive experience, called "Food Adventures," will reveal how the human body metabolizes various foods and explore the various situations that may occur in the process.
Join siblings Zing and Zong on their space science adventure to save their planet in Thunderbolts and Lightning's show "Uninvited Guests from the Universe."
Join the "Science Exclamation Mark" science theater brought by Scitech Discovery Centre to experience amazing science demonstrations, enter the wonderful world of elements such as fire, and learn how to conduct experiments safely.
Fun for families, exploring the world of science
Croucher Science Week will bring a series of entertaining and educational STEM exploration activities to family audiences, allowing the whole family to learn together and discover the infinite fun of science! Through a series of interactive workshops and interesting hands-on activities, students can explore new things together and cultivate a strong interest in science and technology.
Anturus Education will bring you two creative workshops to delve into the world of adventure and science: "Snow Survival" will lead participants to conduct experiments, test different materials, and understand how down keeps climbers warm; and in the "Wind on the Top of the Mountain: Exploring Aerodynamics" workshop, children will become little explorers and use simple materials such as paper and drinking tubes to design, build and test their own mini tents.
The "Smartphone Super Sensing" workshop will be hosted by the Deutsches Museum, using smartphones to demonstrate how different sensors work, and conducting experiments with everyday materials to reveal the interesting principles behind them.
Become a Little Scientist: Put What You Learn in Classroom into Practice
Croucher Science Week not only deepens classroom learning, but also hopes to stimulate children's curiosity and integrate science into their lives! A range of exciting activities will encourage children to continue exploring at home, developing scientific thinking and independent problem-solving skills.
The live event "Street Science" is a hands-on and exciting event not to be missed, where you can experience the inseparability of science into our daily lives. During the interactive session, the Science Made Simple team will demonstrate a series of easy-to-learn and interesting scientific experiments. Children can not only experience them on site, but also take these experiments home to share with family and friends.
The Deutsches Museum will also present two science demonstration theatres, “Soaring to the Sky” and “The Rhythm of Light: Exploring the Mystery of Polarization”, where children can build their own rockets and learn about the mysterious beauty of polarized light through the LCD screens on everyday devices.
In addition to public events, this year's Croucher Science Week will also visit primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong and hold a touring performance from April 7 to 11. David Price from Science Made Simple will present the “Play in the Sound Park” campus touring science theater, demonstrating the scientific principles behind music through experiments and inviting students to participate in on-stage interactions.
Croucher Science Week presents a diverse programme aimed at promoting science popularisation and bringing science closer to our daily lives. As a collaborative project between the Croucher Foundation, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Science Museum, Science Week also aims to recognise outstanding achievements in science and technology and showcase the charm of scientific discovery and technological innovation.
Croucher Science Week is now open for registration. Schools and the public are welcome to participate. All activities are free of charge! For more details and registration, please visit the Croucher Science Week event page.
