Eaton HK Dance Festival returns with 24-hour non-stop live performances
Description
Eaton HK Dance Festival returns with a 24-hour non-stop performance from November 23rd to 24th. The first Dance Festival was held in 2019. This year’s third edition will host more than 30 exciting activities, covering contemporary dance, Cantonese opera, ballet and martial arts. The all-inclusive performances will be integrated into different venues of the hotel, such as the lobby and food court, and in the public The space connects artists, audiences and passers-by to create a flowing viewing experience. For a moment, passers-by become the audience, and they also become the living background of the performance; the audience is also watched by the passers-by, trying to identify the social role structure to which they belong in the space.
This year's dance festival is inspired by the fables of French writer Jean de la Fontaine, with the theme of "Words from afar", turning words into body movements through different postures or no postures. Communicate, convey various humanistic concerns and intertwine diverse artistic expressions. The performing arts transcend the limitations of different languages and deepen the connections between people.
The Dance Festival invited up to 50 artists from Hong Kong and overseas to interpret the theme with their own artistic expressions full of personal characteristics, including Jas Lin (Los Angeles, USA), Lara Dâmaso (Zurich, Switzerland), Li Weineng (Hong Kong) and Li Germany (Hong Kong), etc., and also includes nearby regional and local art and cultural groups as partners including NOWNESS Asia, Yinzi Theater (Chongqing, China), Unlocked Dance Hall (Hong Kong) and TS Crew (Hong Kong).
For the fifth consecutive year, Eaton HK has collaborated with Hong Kong Ballet to present a series of live performances to kick off the Dance Festival. Septime Weber, Artistic Director of Hong Kong Ballet, even personally hosted exchange lectures to share his unique insights with choreographers.
French actor and performer Constantin Leu will participate in the three-week Eaton HK artist residency program in November, bringing a new conceptual dance performance and performing a live personal performance on the evening of November 24.
The Dance Festival has always been a platform for cultural exchanges. This year, immigrants from different Asian ethnic groups were invited, including members from the Asian Immigrant Alliance and Beyond Bollywood, to use their traditional dances to broaden the diverse horizons of the Dance Festival. In order to strengthen the connection between the local and immigrant communities, a group of domestic helpers were invited to create a new dance work with choreographer Jia Shi Zhaoyi (Hong Kong) to tell their stories of migrant workers, which will be performed at the festival Premiere.
